Papa Cidy publicly appealed to Jose Chameleone to demand his share of unpaid music royalties and performance fees from their iconic past collaborations.
The Core of the Dispute
In a respectful but firm open message, Papa Cidy called out his former Leone Island boss over financial issues spanning several years:
Digital Royalties: Major collaborative hit songs like "Daniela", "Meme Katale", and "Joselina" are uploaded on Chameleone’s official online channels. Papa Cidy asserts that he personally made heavy financial investments to fund these collaborative projects and deserves a paycheck from the royalty collections.
Unpaid Performances: Papa Cidy also brought up a long-standing grievance regarding a joint concert they performed in London, stating he was never compensated for the gig. He added, "How are we supposed to survive if we keep working for free?"
Seeking Recognition Alive: Pointing to the recent passing of veteran singer Master Parrot, Papa Cidy emphasized that he is seeking fairness and a lasting solution while they are both still alive. He noted that appreciation should not only be expressed posthumously.
History of Financial Friction
This public demand follows years of on-and-off tension between the two artists. They previously split due to disagreements over uneven money splitting, with Papa Cidy revealing that Chameleone always claimed the lion's share of performance and project revenues, forcing him to exit the Leone Island Crew and look for alternative livelihoods, including a tailoring business in Makindye.
