Members of the National broadcasters association condemn government's violation of press freedom.

National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) in Uganda has strongly condemned the government's direct assault on press freedom following the military-led shutdown and siege of Nation Media Group (NMG) Uganda outlets.

The Direct Affront to Press Freedom

Military Crackdown: On June 28, 2026, state security forces acting under orders from military chief General Muhoozi Kainerugaba surrounded NMG headquarters, forcing NTV Uganda and Spark TV off the air.
Media Outlets Blocked: The operations of major independent platforms—including the Daily Monitor, KFM, and Dembe FM—were actively disrupted or shut down.

Escalating Restrictions: NAB Chairman Kin Kariisa characterized the state's aggressive interference as a "direct affront to press freedom," pointing out that NMG journalists have faced severe operational blockades, including a ban on covering the Presidency since March 2025 and an October 2025 ban from covering Parliament plenary sessions.
