The Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations (FUBA) has officially confirmed that FIBA Africa has withdrawn Uganda’s hosting rights for the 2026 FIBA U18 AfroBasket Zone V Qualifiers. these are The critical operational and situational details of the relocation include:

Key Reasons & Details:

Public Health Concerns: The withdrawal follows a recent Ebola outbreak in the country, after the Ministry of Health confirmed new cases in Kampala.

Venue Change: The tournament was originally scheduled to take place at the newly constructed Hoima City Stadium (Hoima City Arena).

New Host Country: FIBA Africa has officially relocated the regional youth tournament to Egypt.

Updated Dates: The tournament will now be played from June 10 to June 15, 2026 (shifted slightly from the original June 14–20 schedule).

Impact on Team Uganda:

Following the relocation, FUBA President Nasser Sserunjogi confirmed that Uganda has pulled out of the qualifiers, resulting in contrasting situations for the youth teams:

U18 Boys' Team: They are completely knocked out of the tournament cycle because they needed to compete in these Zone V qualifiers to earn a ticket to the main continental championship, but cannot travel due to logistical constraints.

U18 Girls' Team: They remain unaffected competitively as they had already qualified automatically for the main AfroBasket Championship in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, based on their semifinal finish in the previous edition.
