Ugandan comedian Patrick "Salvador" Idringi issued a public apology to singer Bruno K following a heated social media fallout over insensitive remarks Salvador made regarding Bruno K's charitable initiatives.
The Spark of the Dispute
The fallout began when Bruno K posted a message advocating for justice and support for a minor (associated with internet sensation Tenge Tenge) whom he alleged had been exploited. Salvador left a comment under the post intended as lighthearted banter.
However, the joke was poorly received by Bruno K and his followers, who viewed it as mocking a highly sensitive and serious child exploitation issue.
Bruno K's Backlash
Deeply disappointed, Bruno K publicly called out the comedian for his lack of empathy. He reminded Salvador of their long-standing relationship and mutual professional support, noting that he had previously used his own platform to promote Salvador’s comedy shows and help him sell tickets. Bruno K emphasized that as a fellow father, Salvador should have approached the matter with protection and care rather than dismissive jokes.
The Public Apology
Following heavy backlash from social media users, Salvador deleted the offensive comment and posted an official retraction. In his social media apology, he noted:
Poor Judgment: He admitted that his comment was completely unnecessary and executed with poor judgment.
Misplaced Banter: He explained that while he initially intended the comment to be harmless banter, he recognized it crossed the line given the gravity of the child safety issue.
Uplifting Praise: Salvador closed his statement by praising Bruno K for his year-long dedication to uplifting others, urging him to ignore online critics and continue his advocacy work. He added a public call for forgiveness, stating, "Bansonyiwe blood" (Please forgive me, brother).
The reconciliation moved quickly, with Salvador confirming he also reached out privately to make amends and protect their friendship.
